Hypnotherapy & RTT
Hypnotherapy and Rapid Transformational Therapy, explained simply.
Most people have heard of hypnotherapy. Far fewer know what Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) is. Here is what each involves, what a session is like and what to expect, in plain language.
What hypnotherapy is
Hypnosis is a natural, focused state of attention. You have probably been in something like it many times: absorbed in a book, lost in a piece of music, or arriving somewhere without remembering much of the drive. In that state the everyday, analytical part of the mind quietens a little, and it becomes easier to notice the beliefs and associations that sit behind our automatic responses.
Hypnotherapy uses that state deliberately and gently. You remain aware throughout. You can speak, you can move, and you can stop at any point. It is not sleep, it is not stage hypnosis and it is not a loss of control. Most people simply describe it as deeply relaxed and pleasantly focused.
What Rapid Transformational Therapy is
Rapid Transformational Therapy, usually shortened to RTT, is a method developed by Marisa Peer. It brings hypnotherapy together with techniques drawn from several established talking-therapy approaches, and it is built around a clear idea: our patterns are often driven by beliefs we formed in response to earlier experiences, and those beliefs can be understood and updated.
What makes RTT distinctive is its structure. Within a single session, we aim to do three things: understand where a belief or pattern may have started, reframe it from your adult perspective, and put in place new beliefs that support what you want instead. The session is then reinforced by a personalised recording, which you listen to daily over the following weeks.
Many people work on one specific issue over one to three sessions. Deeper or interconnected patterns may take a little longer. Everyone is different, and I will always be honest with you about what I think is realistic.
Inside a session
What a session involves
Settling in
We begin with a short conversation, then I guide you into a relaxed, focused state. There is nothing you need to do or achieve. You simply listen and follow along.
Exploring
I guide you to review a few moments from your past that may be connected to the pattern. You are looking at these as an observer, with your adult understanding, rather than reliving them.
Understanding and reframing
Together we make sense of what your mind learnt in those moments and why it made sense at the time. Then we update that interpretation from where you are now.
New beliefs and your recording
We finish by introducing new, more helpful beliefs, which I record for you in a personalised audio. Listening to it daily in the weeks that follow helps them become familiar.

Clearing up a few things
What hypnotherapy is not
- It is not mind control. You cannot be made to say or do anything against your values, and you will remember the session.
- It is not a quick fix that happens to you. It works best when you take an active part, including listening to your recording.
- It is not a medical treatment. I do not diagnose or treat medical or psychiatric conditions, and I will not make claims that I cannot stand behind.
- It is not a guarantee. Outcomes vary from person to person. What I can promise is careful, honest, individual work.
Is it right for you?
Who this suits
Hypnotherapy suits adults who want to change a specific pattern, and who are willing to be curious about what is underneath it. You do not need any experience of hypnosis, and you do not need to “believe” in it. An open mind is enough.
It is not a substitute for medical or psychiatric care. I do not work with substance dependence, severe addiction, serious mental illness or medical conditions, which need appropriately qualified support. If you are currently under the care of a doctor or mental health professional, please speak with them first.
If you are unsure, that is exactly what the consultation is for. We can talk it through honestly, and I will tell you if I think another kind of support would serve you better.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you begin. A consultation is simply a conversation about what you would like to change.
